Hundreds of slimy sea creatures wash up on Florida Coast

Monday, July 27, 2015, 5:56 PM - Experts say weather is the likely reason hundreds of Atlantic sea hares have washed up on the Florida Coast.
Strong winds appear to be pushing the slugs, which can grow to more than a foot long, ashore.
"Essentially they're like a snail without a shell," Dr. Zack Jud of the Florida Oceanographic Society told WPTV.

While unsightly to some, the slugs are harmless to humans. When threatened, they will emit a purple ink.
This isn't the only time winds have pushed strange sea creatures ashore.
Earlier this month, highly toxic Portuguese man o' wars began washing up along the shores of New Jersey. While typically found in tropical regions, man o' wars have previously been spotted in the Bay of Fundy.
The highly-venomous creatures have tentacles that can grow up to 9 metres in length and are designed to paralyze, and even kill, small prey.
Officials had to issue a public warning after hundreds of the creatures showed up over a period of three weeks.
