Can maple syrup actually be good for you? We investigate
Sweet AND healthy? Can it be true?
Like honey, maple syrup is a breakfast-table favourite. It's hard to even imagine a hot stack of fluffy pancakes without a generous dollop of the stuff.
But its sweetness does, after all, come from sugar, which doctors generally tend to warn people away from.

All the same though, maple syrup is considered one of the best natural sweeteners, often touted as a healthy alternative to table-top sugars. At the baking bowl, you can even achieve the same sweetness as "normal" sugar with smaller amounts of the syrup.
It's also a great source of key minerals and vitamins like manganese and riboflavin, along with anti-oxidants.
Still, it is a sugar, and in the video above, The Weather Network reporter Rachel Schoutsen lays out not just the benefits of maple syrup, but also when it might still not be right for you.
