Snow in the GTA prompts school closures, bus cancellations

Inclement weather has led to numerous school board closures and school bus cancellations

A band of snow moving into southern Ontario has prompted several school boards to close schools for Wednesday, along with a number of bus cancellations.

The following closures have been announced Wednesday morning, with all schools closed:

  • Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board

  • Halton District School Board

  • Halton Catholic District School Board

The following regions have cancelled buses, but schools remain open:

  • York Region District School Board

  • Peel District School Board for Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga

  • York Catholic District School Board

  • Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board

  • Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board for Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon

  • Durham Student Transportation

Toronto District School Board and Toronto Catholic District School Board schools and school buses are operating as usual.

SNOW-CLEARING

The city of Toronto is asking motorists to give snow-clearing equipment time and space on the roads. Residents are also advised to wait "several hours" after the snow has stopped falling to contact 311 with snow clearing requests, said spokesperson Eric Holmes in an interview with CBC.

About 1,500 city personnel will be deployed to help deal with the snowfall, according to to CBC.

In an email to CBC Toronto, Toronto staff provided an outline of how it will approach today's winter storm, noting that the plan is subject to change based on conditions:
