EF0 tornado confirmed amid Tuesday's severe storms in London, Ont.

Based on video captured by several witnesses, an EF0 tornado has been confirmed in London amid Tuesday's severe thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorms bubbled up across parts of southern Ontario on Tuesday, with a team from the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) confirming an EF0 tornado touched down near the London International Airport during the afternoon hours.

"A tornado in northeast London was captured on video by several witnesses," the NTP tweeted Wednesday afternoon. "An NTP surveyor discovered a path of weak tree damage in the vicinity of the reports on August 11, 2021."

Based on the damage, the tornado was assessed as an EF0, with an estimated maximum wind speed of 115 km/h.

A further investigation is pending, which will include a track analysis and satellite imagery review.

The severe thunderstorm threat lingers across the region into Wednesday, as a stagnant pattern continues to drive hot, humid and stormy conditions into Ontario.

"Fuelled by this muggy and unstable air mass, storms can bubble up at any point across the region, leading to quickly changing weather conditions," warns Michael Carter, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.
