Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, RCMP received a report that a combine harvester had rolled over into a slough near Provincial Road 592 and Road 140 N., in the rural municipality of Riding Mountain West, police said in a Tuesday news release.
Investigators believe the 55-year-old Roblin man was driving the combine southbound on the provincial road when he lost control going downhill on an icy part of the road. The combine slid into a steep embankment and rolled onto its roof into the water, police said.
A witness driving a combine in front of the 55-year-old jumped into the icy water and pulled him from the cab of the combine, providing medical care until first responders arrived, RCMP say.
However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
RCMP say their investigation into the incident continues.
