Description


Where: West and Inland Vancouver Island including Tofino, Ucluelet, Port Alberni, Bamfield, Port Renfrew, Lake Cowichan, Gold River, Zeballos and Tahsis.

When: Friday and Saturday.

What: Storm totals approaching 100 mm of rain near the coast and possibly exceeding 200 mm over mountainous terrain. Inland regions of Vancouver Island can expect storm totals to range from 50 to 100 mm.

Hazards:
- Water pooling on roads
- Swollen rivers and creeks
- Minor coastal flooding

Remarks:
A strong fall storm system will direct an atmospheric river towards the South Coast, bringing heavy rain to the region. Rain will begin early Friday morning and intensify throughout the day with rainfall rates peaking Friday afternoon and evening.

Most areas will see the rain ease through the day on Saturday, though Port Renfrew and Lake Cowichan will see rain continue. A second pulse of rain is expected overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.

Ahead of the storm, ensure that drains are clear of leaves and debris and secure loose objects.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Don't approach washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
